This Helensvale Haus is designed in response to our client’s connection to the sub-tropical Malaysian climate and courtyard style home. Through thoughtful planning on this medium sized block, the ground floor living spaces flank and flow onto a central green courtyard.
The building breathes and promotes cross-ventilation while creating a bold and private frontage to the street. Entry is through the library and reading room at the front edge of the courtyard. Large doors blur the boundary between inside and outside, with the kitchen centrally located as the hub of the house.
The upper floor is a series of private spaces. Bedrooms, bathrooms and a living space that surround the courtyard, where the family can be separate to the public areas on the ground floor. There is a balance in this project between ‘open plan’ and ‘private’ rooms.
Completed in early 2018.
