Border Haus is a home that places communal living and engagement with both near and distant surroundings at its core. Three separate wings have been arranged around a central deck space to create a house that embodies the casual vibrancy of life by the beach in Byron Bay.
In response to its’ highly erosion-prone location, the house was constructed offsite using the Happy Haus modular system. These modules were then transported to site by truck and craned into place. Should erosion threaten the feasibility of the site in the years to come it can be easily removed in the same manner.
Designed for a vivacious woman with a veritable “village” of friends and loved ones in her life, our goal was to create a beach house that could accommodate long and short-term guests, host large and small events and connect its occupants with the gorgeous coastal landscape of Belongil Beach and beyond.
Project completed in 2016.
